Subject: bagrut pay
For people who are considering joining the Bagrut Examiners, and
want to know how much the pay is..
The gross pay is a 121 shekels per hour. We are given 8 hours worth
of papers per day, 6 days per week. (The powers above decide how
many papers an hour we check- it varies from module to module - we
are not expected to check papers over Shabbat, but of course, that is
up to the individual examiner.) We usually check for about 3 weeks -
so that comes out to about 17,400 gross. How much of that you actually
take home depends on your taum mas. I think most people lose somewhere
around 35%-40% on taxes - perhaps some a bit more and some a bit less.
Subtracting 40% would mean taking home 10,000 for the three weeks of work.
New markers might earn a bit less the first time around because for the
first
week, they take home smaller batches.
We are paid for the hours we spend at the tidruch, and for transportation
to and from Kiryat Ono. (THAT is also taxed). We are not paid for the
time we spend going back and forth to Kiryat Ono - except for people
who live really far away.. they do get some extra pay for "bitul zman") -
and we have to exchange papers every three days. Sometimes we spend
time waiting at the Marvad to exchange papers - though that has improved
in recent years - We also often spend time at the Marvad consulting with
senior examiners about problematic papers.
Can one actually complete the work in 8 hours? That depends.
During the first few days, definitely not. It takes time to become
familiar with the key. After that, theoretically you can complete the
work in 8 hours of actual work. Sometimes you're lucky and you get
a good batch which you complete in less time than expected.
Other times, you get problematic papers that take more time than
you are officially allotted. It varies from individual to individual,
and for each person, it varies from day to day.
Hope this info is helpful.
