Subject: Summarize
This list is amazing, you never feel alone, or that a question is
out of place.
I asked for help in teaching to summarize, and many people asked me to send
on
the responses.
The following sites were suggested by Nira Artzy
http://www.ohiou.edu/esl/help/quotation.html
http://mwp01.mwp.hawaii.edu/resources/wm6.htm
http://teachers.net/lessons/posts/3131.html
http://arc.academyart.edu/writing/paraphrasing.asp
http://hills.ccsf.org/~esltech/Lessons/Internet/readsummarize.html
http://iteslj.org/Techniques/Greaney-Writing.html
I haven't gone into them all in detail, but the first one was exactly
what I was looking for.
Nehama Barbiru told me to go into
http://www.rinkworks.com/bookaminute/,
and I couldn't stop laughing, (and this while cooking for Chag and guests
at
the same time. I wrote to her that my familiy had to make do with summarized
meals!)
And Ora Baumgarten sent
http://ziv.jerusalem.k12.il/summarizing.html
which is so basic and clear that it is a must.
I will start on well known stories as well as the texts from the books, and
hopefully the skill will be mastered in no time at all.
Thanks again all,
enjoy the uninterrupted few months of teaching (unless you teach in
a Bnei Akiva school where you now get about ten days till Hodesh Irgun)
Judy
