Dear friends,

I have just come out of the weirdest English staff meeting ever. Our school had required more than a thousand pupils to buy a particular publisher's practice book and it was sold to them with the answer keys.
Now that's a scandal!

These books were meant to be used for demonstration, homework and class work, quizzes and exams and even matkonot.
The answers in the answer key are sometimes short enough to simply memorize and turn the test into a fiasco.
The teachers on the meeting felt lost; What books should they now use?
How will they face the parents who would feel they have bought the books in vain?
What should they do with assignments which have already been handed in and graded?

One of the teachers said that the publisher makes an extra buck by adding the answer key to the books.
Can the people at the publisher's come up with answers to any of the questions that were raised here?
Should we English teachers again come up with solutions to society's greed and/ or carelessness?
