I am responding to Rachelle who asked for books for English speakers.
I am writing more as a mother of kids who have been through the
system, than as a teacher.

The problem with using "Challenges" for 7th graders is that the book,
like most books for Proficiency level, is aimed not only at a certain level
of English knowledge, but also at a certain level of maturity, so the issues
discussed are of no interest to the average 12 year old.  My kids suffered
continuously from the use of text books which they understood linguistically
but not emotionally.

(This is NOT a criticism of the book which I have taught enjoyably
to 11th-12th graders)
