I see that we will be discussing the ins & outs
of the new Bagrut for a while and I think that this is
positive. I'd like to throw a new question into the
mix: Why aren't there any choices?
If we "examine" the exams for other Bagrut
subjects we find a required question or section and
then other sections where the student gets to choose
which question s/he wants to answer. Would't this
eliminate some of the problems of testing reasoning
vs. English knowledge? It seems to me that if a
student is given only three or four questions on an
extended unseen s/he should have more opportunities to
demonstrate their understanding of the text. The same
is true for the compositions. Why are the students so
limited?I know that a possinble answer may be that
there is an effort to make a connection between the
unseen and the writing task - but that was not the
case in the "G" module.
The module idea is a good one - why not make it
the best opportunity for the students to prove what
they know?
Best,
Ariella Kopels
