ETAI Spring: Special Guest Speakers sponsored by the Office of Public Affairs
of the United States of America:
Leslie Opp-Beckman is on faculty at the University of Oregon's Linguistics
Department, and in the American English Institute where she serves as
Technology Coordinator. She teaches a combination of face-to-face and online
distance education courses. She has published, lectured and conducted
professional training workshops in the area of Computer Assisted Language
Learning (CALL) for English language educators extensively across the United
States and internationally in countries such as Slovenia, Ukraine, Hungary,
Austria, Thailand, Egypt, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, South Africa, and Mozambique.
She has held leadership positions in International TESOL and is active in a
variety of professional organizations.
Andrea Schindler is the Regional English Language Officer (RELO) posted at the
Embassy of the United States of America, Amman, Jordan. She has taught English
and trained teachers in Yemen, Dubai, Japan and China and led a variety of
training workshops in countries in her region as the RELO. In the US, she has
taught English for Academic Purposes (EAP) at the university and the community
college level in Arizona, Texas and Florida. Her main interests include second
language acquisition, methodology, materials development and adaptation and
content-based-instruction. She also specializes in speaking and presentation
skills, reading instruction, the writing process, project development,
classroom management, EAP and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) business.
