Someone mentioned a separate list for elementary school teachers. If there
is such a list please tell us how to subscribe.
I often find myself wondering why we don't hear from elementary school
teachers more often on ETNI.
I feel that I carry an awesome responsibility preparing these kids for
Junior High School and it would be great to hear from other teachers how
they are progressing with their young pupils.
My most challenging class is a very weak 6th grade boys class. I used Rescue
I with them during the first half year. Now we have graduated to Highlight
Alternative. It's a tremendous leap but so important for their self esteem
since the other boys class is using Highlight. I actually have a number of
boys who are using the regular Highlight since that it what they purchased
at the beginning before they were switched to my class. So it's quite a
challenge juggling these two books and some serious discipline difficulties.
I can really feel an improved atmosphere since we began Highlight. They feel
so good about graduating from Rescue. It makes me wonder about next years
choice of books for the fifth grade boys. In the fifth grade there is a
small class of boys who are very weak in English. They are now using Entry
Point by UPP. From their teacher it sounds like they are making very slow
progress. I am teaching a much larger group of 5th grade boys with
Storyclub. I don't see anyway for them to bridge the gap and recombine the
classes back to their homeroom devisions as I had hoped at the beginning of
the year. Do you have any suggestions?
Best Wishes, Mara
