Hi All,
I can't refrain from relating the following all too true story of Bir Hadaj
Bedouin school.
Yesterday the high storm winds in the Negev ripped the doors off some of
the caravans. The school is located, literally, in the outback and
unprotected from the harsh elements.
What I can't fathom is the beaurocratic responses the principal was up
against when he requested permission to send the kids home early due to the
situation; only at noon were they allowed to leave. This morning, with
continuing bad weather, only 40 pupils arrived at school and as the doors
are still non-existent, all the pupils are now in one caravan that wasn't
damaged and has 2 minimal electric heaters "decorating" the wall. The
school, as I've written before, is accessed only on dirt tracks, an arduous
journey for most.
At this time, the principal is still waiting for the regional council to
come and make repairs.
Laurie
