**** ETNI on the web http://www.etni.org.il http://www.etni.org ****
after having read the newest hozer mankal (from 12.03) about 20 time and
talking to a few yoatzot at different schools -
here comes "more than you ever wanted to know about accomodations for LD
pupils in the english bagrut " (but even if you didn't want to know - you
need to!).
for the ENGLISH bagrut there are the following accomodations (among
others) -
1. hakra'at she'elon - the kid is read the whole exam (unseen, instructions,
questions) by a "neutral reader" (not their english teacher.) the reader
stays with the kid during the whole test, and rereads anything as needed.
the pupil writes the answers in the exam notebook as usual.
2. hashma'at she'elon m'kaletet - the kid gets a tape of the whole exam
(unseen, instructions, questions, and maybe the listening comp. also) and
listens to it on a walkman, going back and forth as needed. the pupil writes
the answers in the exam notebook as usual.
3. oral exam - the pupil DOES NOT see the exam before meeing with the
tester. the tester -an english teacher who did not teach the pupil (this
year? ever? )- reads the test to the pupil, and the pupil answers orally .
the tester writes down the kid's answers. only a shortend version of the
test is given, without the listening comp. and with a shortened unseen
and/or less questions. the writting (composition) is less words than usual.
the exam has less time. (20 or 25 min. for a 1hr 15 min tzvira exam).
4. haklatat tshuvot al kaletet - for english only. the kid gets the regular
exam, but instead of writing the answers , records them on a tape cassette.
instructions for the above are sent out by the mafmarit before the exam.
"generic" instructions for the tzvira tests for LD pupils are up on etni
already.
OTHER SUBJECTS
1. hakra'at she'elon - the kid is read the whole exam (instructions,
questions, whatever...) by a "neutral reader". the reader stays with the kid
during the whole test, and rereads anything as needed. the pupil writes the
answers in the exam notebook as usual.
2. hashma'at she'elon m'kaletet - doesn't usually exist.
3. oral test - the pupil is given the written questions like all the kids.
he/he sits for about 45-60 min and writes notes/outlines for the answers.
then he/she meets with a tester (a teacher of the subject who did not teach
the pupil ) and tells the answers to the teacher, who writes them down. the
meeting lasts about 25 min.
(there are other accomodations also....)
the problem most yoatzot have is with the difference between the oral exam
in english (where the kid can't see the test befor meeting with the tester)
and in other subjects (where they MUST see the test and write notes on their
answers.
i think your yoetzet is talking about hakra'at she'elon and hashma'at
she'elon mekaletet.
(Arona, can I be your assistant ?)
