[etni] blocking the driveway - etni mail cont'd

Hi all,

It has recently come to our attention that more and more ETNI subscribers are 
shooting themselves in their ETNI
foot - by inadvertently making changes to their email program which block ETNI 
mail.

Therefore, we strongly suggest that - before you begin the long process of 
checking with your Internet Service
Provider to see if they have created changes that may be blocking your mail - 
that you check your local email
program (Outlook express, hotmail, yahoo mail, eudora, etc.) - to see if you 
have created blocked lists or mail
rules which may be sending your ETNI mail into a bulk mail folder or deleting 
it upon entry.

Note that if you have created a mail rule/filter which only lets through mail 
addressed directly to you (as
does one level of the hotmail filter) ETNI mail will not reach you - as it is 
not directly addressed to you in
the "to" line. In such cases you must create an exception rule which allows 
mail addressed to -
etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx  
Or include this email address in the "mailing list" option which appears in 
some email programs (such as
hotmail).

Note also - that the ETNI digest is even more problematic, in this respect, as 
it mistakenly appears to many
mail filters to be a bulk mail generator instead of a digest list generator. 
This could explain why you
suddenly stop receiving ETNI mail after you have changed your list status from 
individual messages to digest
mode. Here, again, you either have to tweak your mail filter/mail rules in 
order to allow for the digest's safe
arrival, or include the digest email "from address" - ecartis@xxxxxxxxxxxxx - 
in your "safe list".
