[etni] bits and pieces

**** ETNI on the web http://www.etni.org.il http://www.etni.org ****

I'll address here a couple of running topics.....
Printing out materials: Our school provides the ink but not the paper. Each
kids brings his own to the computer room and can then print out whatever he
needs. The system works well.

Gmulim for N.S. teachers: I strongly disagree and protest that teachers of
native speakers don't deserve/need gmulim. I teach classes of these kids and
the time I put much time into preparation and spend endless hours reading and
marking their MANY written assignments. I want to point out that some of the
kids in these classes are English speakers much more than readers and writers.
They are very similar in their needs to the pupils mentioned in the article on
Spanish Heritage classes (recently posted on ETNI). In other words, they need
to learn the language in a different way than regular EFL pupils. But there is
a lot of learning going on! Some of the pupils are not even true native
speakers but excellent, above-average kids who we feel can benefit from being
in such a group. They too need plenty of practice. And as Maxine pointed out,
we're aiming above Bagrut level.
