Working to patch technology gap, keep up with the students
Haaretz - June 28, 2007
It happens to lots of teachers: They are presenting material related to
computers and the Internet when a student jumps up and says, "That's not how
you use that program!" But the Education Ministry is going to train teachers
under a new program called "A Laptop for Every Teacher," similar to its
program "A Computer for Every Child." The project is the brainchild of Uri
Ben-Ari, former executive vice president of Ness Technologies, who recruited
other high-tech companies to his cause and set up a nonprofit association
named Athena for the empowerment of teachers.
Over the next few months some 60,000 laptops will be distributed to
teachers, free of charge. The aim is to accustom the teachers to using
computers, at least on a level matching that displayed by the students.
