Hi All,
Just thought I'd share a few thoughts/words with you on my 11th grade, 5
point Valentine's Day lesson.
I brought the classic love poem, "A Red, Red Rose" by Robert Burns. Most of
the pupils, rather to my surprise, really liked it and when I asked how they'd
feel if someone sent them such a poem like it, many said they'd be all smiles
and beyond. One girl just gave the "thumbs up" in response. Another kid
commented that a red rose is rather kitchy; I told her that I thought all the
plastic red roses in the mall were pretty kitschy and they might well be there
because Burns thought of the idea!
Afterwards I asked them to write love poems of their own. I was
flabbergasted by some, especially those written by the boys!
The cherry on top was one that 2 wrote to me....quite humorous but with love!
And yes, we do have our own Tu B'Av but that's in summertime and a little
love now warms the winter.
