[etni] Translation exam and university acceptance

We have been teaching translation skills at our school for several years now
and I do believe that it is a valuable course for some of the more gifted
language students who are looking for an intellectual challenge, however, I
have been getting feedback recently from graduates that this particularly
bagrut test is not "counted" when they apply to university. I find that a
bit strange especially since their grades are often high. I have no idea how
universities figure out bagrut numbers but have been told that each
university does it a bit differently. If someone out there in
Etni-land could explain this all to me, I would be most appreciative. I also
feel a moral obligation to get to the bottom of this since students in our
school have to pay additional fees in order to study translation and if in
the end it doesn't help them get into university, I think they have a right
to know this.
Thanks for your help.
