[etni] Teaching "The Chrysalids"

I will be teaching John Wyndham's classic novel of post-nuclear war society, "The Chrysalids." I plan to use the 1983 movie, "The Day After," with Jason Robarts as an introduction to the book. Now I'm wondering if the movie is too disturbing for my class of Gr. 9-10 Native Speakers. Any advice, anyone?
