The more I think about it, the less I like the "teacher of the week" idea.
Given the pay (or lack thereof), the way the kids behave, the way the parents
behave (worse), the lack of recognition, school politics and all the fun things
that teachers have to deal with that have nothing to do with teaching, "teacher
of the week" seems a little lame. *Every* teacher who stays in the system
should be "teacher of the week," and get a medal as well.
So far, of the 301 teachers who have voted, about half -- say 150, for a round
number -- are dead set against the NBA and a third -- about 100 -- have
reservations. That means 250 out of 300 teachers, give or take, do not think
the NBA is such a fabulous idea, and they can't *all* be habitual whiners. Even
if there are a number of non-voting teachers in favor (and I don't think for a
second that they exist), I sincerely doubt that they would tip the scales. Is
anyone from the ministry going to relate to the issue?
