Dear Etniers,
 

Your students are invited to  Come to the Sia'h  vaSig Summer Debate
Workshops!

This summer we are running three debate workshops -Lod, Jerusalem and Tel
Aviv -but you do not have to be a native English speaker to participate.

The workshops are intended for students entering 8th to 12th grades. No
previous debating experience is necessary. 

Among our teachers are prizewinning debate coaches from Great Britain and
some of the best student debaters in Israel, all of whom have been members
of Israel?s national debating teams.

On the final day we?ll hold a show debate and awards ceremony for parents
and friends .

What is Debating?

Debating is the world?s most popular method of persuasion. It is also a
sophisticated way of discussing ideas. In debate you learn to argue
convincingly and confidently as well as to speak charismatically to an
audience. Based on a thorough knowledge of the subject being debated, you
will acquire the skills of organized thought, rhetoric, clarity, forceful
and convincing style, logic, humor, wit and even irony and sarcasm.

Will it improve my English?

Absolutely! Beyond all expectations. And you don't have to be a native
English speaker to participate.

Who are we?

Sia'hvaSig: The Israel Debating Society is a

registered non-profit organization founded in 1987 to introduce debating
skills into the educational system to improve the level of private and
public discourse in society. Our first workshop took place in 1993 and has
grown over the years from 40 to 300 participants.

Why should I want to do this?

? Sharpen your tongue

You?ll learn to develop strong arguments designed to persuade, to use the
right words with the right voice, to think on your feet and finally, to use
wit and humor effectively.

? Sharpen your mind

You?ll learn to analyze topics logically, listen attentively, master the art
of persuasion, think on your feet, organize your thoughts and to understand
difficult concepts faster.

? Sharpen your appearance

You'll learn how to make a good first impression, improve your body
language, use gestures effectively and conquer stage fright.

? Travel abroad

If you continue to participate in Sia?hvaSig?s regular weekly meetings, you
will have the opportunity to compete for a place on one of the teams
representing Israel at international debating tournaments that bring
together the best high-school debaters from around the world.
