Dear Barbara Ori and ETNIers,
As far as I know there is a signed agreement with the Teachers' Union on
doing projects in English without extra compensation.
The sanctions regarding the literature module, for some reason, opened the
issue of projects with no negotiation with the Ministry.
English teachers are paid by the Ministry of Education, local municipalities
or Networks not by the Teachers' Union. We should be accountable to those
who pay us.
As for now, teachers who do not do projects, are causing their students to
be penalized in the future as the Ministry has not come out with any new
guidelines regarding the Oral Bagrut and the presentation of projects.
This is my opinion.
Tziona.

Subject: [etni] Not doing projects

Dear Dov,
Just to remind you that the reason that the Irgun HaMorim put sanctions on
doing projects with the students was not to avoid "_______ bullets" and
doing all the hard work with our students to help them produce projects on a
high standard (Which we ALL have done since the projects were introduced),
but rather to ensure that these same teachers would be compensated for their
time and work!
In my school, we were lucky enough to have completed the projects in the
eleventh grade. However, since we believe in our union and its attempts to
improve the conditions for teachers, we have not begun any new projects.
There was a meeting with the Ministry and the Irgun a month or so ago. (See
the Irgun site for a report on the meeting) Unfortunately, they did not
reach an agreement. I can only recommend to teachers in the Irgun HaMorim
who did not do projects with their graduating students this past year and
are in the midst of Oral Bagrut testing to contact their representative in
the Irgun (or even Ran Erez) for instructions on how to proceed with the
grading.

Next year, the numbers of students without projects will increase. The
Ministry of Education must give high priority to solving this problem
together with the unions. NOW!

Barbara Ori
