North opts out of English-teacher training program
Haaretz - March 13, 2009
The Education Ministry failed to find schools in the North willing to take
trainees for its latest program for aspiring English teachers, Anglo File
has learned. Consequently, the ministry is not running the program in the
North, leaving some applicants no choice but to make a daily 250-kilometers
commute. Officials familiar with the controversial program, set to begin
next week, call it "an administrative mess," adding that the curriculum has
not been set yet.
