Menachem and others, in classical English the student is 100% correct. If
you have ever read any 19th century novels by authors such as Jane Austen
or Emily Bronte then you would be familiar with the use of the word
intercourse to mean engage in intense dialogue. In fact that is the original
meaning according to oxford. However the usage of the word has changed over
time. It would be a useful exercise to tell the student (or students) that
although the word "intercourse" means something else today it does have
another meaning.
