Dear Colleagues,
I have a friend whose daughter is braving the waters of higher education,
after a trying experience in her 12 years of mandatory schooling. She was
LD, but not diagnosed until the 7th grade. (Dyscalculia - which affects not
only numbers, but also other things - like her ability to differentiate
between important information and less important ; main idea and supporting
details, perspectives in direction as well as time, etc.)
If this were a case of English, I could help her with the materials I have
for reading comprehension - Graphic organizers and other tips. I could STILL
help her a lot, I believe, but she does NOT live nearby and needs something
she can access for herself. (She will be studying in Beit Beryl College -
NOT the education part - rather communications, movies, etc). Especially in
her first year, she will have to deal with a lot of theoretical, basic
material on the topic, and she is afraid that she will be lost trying to
deal with it all. She has no problem reading; rather - it is making
effective sense and order for specific learning purposes that she is afraid
of having difficulties with .
Are any of you familiar with self-help books in Hebrew, or sites she can
access. Or even special programs that are available in Beit Beryl to help
the learning challenged student? She is really motivated now (but scared to
death after feeling like an academic failure throughout her childhood).
I appreciate any suggestions you may have.
All the best
Adele
