[etni] Instrumental Enrichment - Professor R. Feuerstein

**** ETNI on the web http://www.etni.org.il http://www.etni.org ****

Dear Etniers,

I know that many English teachers have taken courses on Professor R.
Feuerstein's "Instrumental Enrichment". A psychologist friend in Scotland,
Brendan Gerrard, has recently done an 8 day course on Professor
Feuerstein's theories and methods - described as 'Dynamic Assessment". The
course was given by Ruth Deutch, who now lives and works in London and who
trained with the professor.
Brendan has written to me with the following questions. I hope very much
that some of you can find some time to give him the benefit of your thoughts
and experience.

Please write to him directly at Brendan.Gerrard@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks,

Marion

1. Is Professor F. as prominent in Israeli educational thinking as is
implied by his followers over here?

2. Do any of Professor F's teachings (about groups failing to achieve in the
education system) chime with something Israeli teachers are alert to in
the classroom? Particularly in the
classrooms of new immigrants from non western cultures. [ The example dealt
with in the course was the Mellah people of Morrocco.]

3. If yes, are there other examples of more recent immigrant groups ( e.g.
immigrants from Ethiopia) benefiting from input of the sort claimed to be
beneficial by the Prof?

4. Indeed are there indigenous groups who could also be described as
suffering from cultural deprivation. (Come to think of it does Israel have
indigenous groups)? There certainly are in Scotland where poverty, family
break up, drug and alcohol abuse lead to droves of boys, particularly,
failing to achieve educationally.
