Many teachers I know simply couldn't afford to come.
Does the convention have to be at a hotel?
That thought has crossed my mind as well. I drove up
with a young teacher. She paid for a membership (mine
is hora'at keva - so I don't realise that I pay for it...) She
paid for the two days. She paid for a metapelet. The
cost of the conference (and membership) alone came to
about IS 350.- for two days. That is a lot of money!!!
The membership is valid one year only so she will
have to pay the same next year, too. There were so
few young teachers at the conference.
In comparison to other conferences, ETAI is not that
expensive. However, the question should be: do we
want to compare ETAI to other conferences or do
we want to make sure that as many young teachers
as possible and all teachers in general are able to attend.
I know that ETAI is a non-profit organisation.
But there has to be a way to organise sponsors or
whatever it takes so that more people come.
It seems to me that there were less people there
this year than in previous years.
Please correct me if I am mistaken.
