I have to say I agree 100% with Ruthi.
I am the mother of 3 LD kids (actually, young adults now) who all had
oral testing or dictating their tests. Even so, I feel that only if we
carry out the union sanctions will we have any hope of getting
anything.
after telling my classes (all of whom are taking the winter bagrut)
that they would not get their accommodations in the school tests (but
of course will have accommodations in the bagrut) a few parents phoned
me last night.
i think i succeeded in getting them to agree with me that if the
teachers are promised something by the government and don't get it -
the problem is the government, not the teachers.

and I believe that it is better to have sanctions now than to strike
or not to have tests etc (which I am afraid it might come to.) Some of
the parents said they might write a letter to Prof. Tamir about this.

But the most important thing is that if we are members of a union,
only if we ALL carry out the union sanctions will we ever get
anything. Every teacher who decides to test orally or to give extra
time in a test weakens us.

I have some problems with Esther's letter, although of course we all realize
the problematics of the decision to have sanctions affecting the LD
population. Firstly we are a union, and only our union can represent us, and
believe me, we need someone to do that because the general public has not
the slightest idea why the educational system is collapsing and we don't
seem to be able to convince them that it has to change.
