Pardon me for barging in to this discussion. I am not participating in the 
course because I am honoring the Union Sanctions decision .But having just 
read a letter about the gripes being raised in the course, I breathe a sigh 
of relief that I am not in the course ,although I had planned to be there.
As a teacher with an MA in comparative Lit and 28 years teaching experience 
I love teaching Literature even with the lower level kids and struggle to 
get them to appreciate the stories and poems we teach and the universal 
messages they bring.However the idea of boiling it all down to HOTS and LOTS 
and having to grapple with all these buzzwords and "American style "(don't 
shoot me,guys) jargon just chills me.
Why does everything become an acronym? Why do we need fancy terminology?
We know all about plot,character, personification, metaphor and all the 
beautiful things there are in literature, why kill all that stone dead and 
turn the whole thing into a chore and a gimmick?
Can somebody explain the rationale?
Why not call a spade a spade and get back to old fashioned lit and grammar 
,vocab and spelling ??
