Subject: terrible school conditions - what can be done?
In continuation to the shocking conditions teachers have reported to the
list (the cold, the doors falling off caravans, lakes / puddles in the
school, etc) in both the Beduin and the Jewish sectors, why isn't this an
issue for the irgunei morim to fight for?
Can't pressure be put on the local authorities through the local press?
It is my sincere hope that these schools are in the minority. I have taught
in a number of schools, put 4 children through the system and have visited
hundreds of schools all over the country with our theatre but the conditions
described by Kathie, Michelle and Laurie take me back 20-25 years when most
of us couldn't heat our homes properly either, when if you asked somebody
not to smoke on a bus they looked at you as if you had fallen from another
planet, when you couldn't get diet drinks and were still on the (20-year
old) waiting list for a telephone.
How horrid and outrageous that you are working and the kids "learning" under
such conditions today!
The worst I've encountered in schools over the last few years has been not
enough air conditioners in the summer, which is hard but I think not as
cruel as the extremely cold wintry days.
GRRRRRR (and BRRRRR)!
