Subject: teaching olim classes
Shalom ETNIers,
This year I teach in yeshivat hispin olim from Ethiopia (11th grade). This
is my second year with this class, and we are planning on doing module B
this year.
I'm looking for other high school English teachers that teach olim classes -
in the hope of establishing a small "support group" - where we can help each
other and study from each other's experience.
I love teaching this class, but in my opinion one cannot ignore the big
challenge in this work... they are (or at least were) much less exposed to
English until coming to Israel (therefore making the listening comprehension
very difficult). I also understood their English lessons were not focused on
communicative language like it is here... hence making open writing
assignment (like a postcard) difficult as well.
Anyway, if anyone out there teaches an olim class - please contact me.
Thanks,
Devori Avramovich
Katzrin
