Subject: teaching english to native english speakers
Hello,
I am looking for advice about the best way for me to become qualified/
trained to teach "dovrei inglit". I am not an English teacher. I speak only
a little Hebrew, but am learning. I am a retired speech therapist, a
self-employed artist, a new immigrant (3 years), and a concerned mother of
three. One of my greatest concerns since moving to Israel has been the
inadquacy of the english teaching my older children have received. I
recently approached my children's principal to offer my time to teach
english. She was ready to have me step in to the classroom the next day as a
substitute teacher. I declined this as I don't want to be on call and I felt
uncertain about my qualifications. Also, my oldest daughter was ready to
leave home if I were to become a teacher in her school - no privacy for her.
My original motivations were of course the desire to teach my children so
that they would not 'lose' their excellent english skills. Now however I am
thinking that I would like to be part of making a better english learning
experience for other kids like mine and I am ready to get my feet wet in the
next phase of my own adjustment to living in Israel. It is time for me to do
something- I just need to know how to start.
If you have any advice for me I will be most grateful.
Michelle Lubash
