At a recent meeting of the National Student Council in Jerusalem (according to what some of our students said) there was a discussion about sending some council members abroad. I was told that it was announced this would not be for Arab council members. Although some students did not agree no one protested or supported their fellow council members from Arab schools. Have any other teachers heard their school council members' version of this? It made me sick, and as I help 2 students improve their speaking skills for this trip I wonder about the concept of democracy and social values that were taught that day.
