A student is given accomodations according to how they function IN CLASS! The only people qualified to report on how a kid actually FUNCTIONS in English class is the TEACHER who teaches him or her. The fact that we are asked about how a kid functions in class is the best thing that could have happened to our pupils. Sometimes kids go for a didactic assessment and get accomodations they don't need based on the assessment or (unfortunately) how much they were able to pay the tester. However, the great majority of the kids really do need the accomodations they receive. One of the main ways someone doing the didactic assessment is able to determine exactly what may help a kid is the teacher's recommendation. Furthermore, the comittee that sits in the ministry that decides what accomodations a kid needs must take into account the teachrer's recommendation. I think it's great that they (whoever they are) have finally realized that the opinion and viewpoint of the classroom teacher is important when determining a kid's future and testing acommodations.

Today at our English Staff meeting, we were informed that from now on we, only we, will be in charge of the destiny of students with accommodations. Although this went into effect last year, the advisor took care of all the accommodations and now won't be doing it anymore.
We were told that we had to read each students didactic evaluation and then fill in many, many pages reporting our opinion based on the students work in class.
