Daniel
they can take out a book and read it without having to be graded. As I said
before in this thread I give them a yes /no grade if they read/did not read.
But if I had to write a report on every book I read I would begin to see it
as a chore instead of a delight

In my humble opinion book reports or book tasks serve three very useful
purposes: they encourage students to read a book for content and meaning
relevant to their lives; it allows us (teachers) to monitor and grade what
are students are reading and thirdly, it motivates a student to actually
take out an English book and read it.
Reading is for the mind what exercise is for the body.
