In response to Judy Givati 's comment re "answers that a variety of markers
might expect from them" (see below), I hasten to point out: Markers do not
decide what answers are acceptable or not acceptable on a whim!
The answer key goes through a long process before it reaches "officialdom".
First of all a skeleton answer key is handed down from Machon Szold (who
formulated the exam in the first place). Senior markers then spend
approximately 20 hours (or more) in three separate sittings mulling over the
additional acceptable - non-acceptable answers that have cropped up on the
midgum (sampling ot several thousand exams which seniors have perused
following the taking of the exam). At the general tidruch more answers are
suggested and still more common renderings raise their ugly heads during the
actual marking process. Seniors spend hours and hours of the time when they
should be marking discussing every single possible rendering that is brought
to their attention. So please be reassured that acceptable answers are not
just the whim of one examiner!

very difficult because it becomes, as this discussion has underlined, a
matter not of responding sensibly but rather trying to second guess what a
variety of markers might expect from them!!!

in order to prepare them for the most unreasonable situation.... definitelt
NOT a way to go but I feel I'v been forced into it..jesg
