Subject: Re: grading bagroots -- an innocent question
From 1998 till 2003 there was a system of Accuracy and Communicative
ability.
In 5 point tests there were two compositions worth 10 pts each. Most pupils
got a n average 7/10 (4 for communicative ab. and 3 for accuracy) unless it
was especially abysmal, then s/he might get a 3 + 2 (out of 10 per compo).
There were also discrepancies between the two types of compos. some genres
were done better than others (depnding on how many phrases of the format had
been pre-memorized.) Prior to 1997 the whole nature of the tests was
different and it is simply too distressing to go into it. Rest assured,
however, that the change to communo-accurate (1998) represents the top of
the slippery descent into communo- inaccurate.
