I take VERY strong exception to what has been written here: that NO gmulim
should be given to teachers preparing native speakers. I don't know if
you have ever taught native speakers, but the amount of written work that I
give my pupils, and which keeps me occupied not only on my day off but on
Saturdays as well, entitles me to those gmulim, believe me!! Besides, I
can say with certainty that teachers of native speakers do not limit
themselves to preparing their pupils for the Bagrut exam, but see it as
their goal to enrich their pupils' knowledge of literature, develop their
expository and creative writing skills , cope with difficult texts like the
type they might find at the university, improve their vocabulary, teach them
how to speak in front of a group and even debate, in short, help them to
achieve a very high standard of English. For all that don't we deserve a
measly gmul or two? According to the logic of what you've written, native
speakers don't have to be taught at all; just give them a Bagrut or two to
practice on and send them off to the test!
