Hi All,

I'd like to refer to the article Ruth sent on acoustics in the classroom. 
(see link below)

The article focuses mostly on the pupils but what about us, the teachers?

How many of us find ourselves trying to make ourselves heard over traffic, 
building site noise or planes flying overhead, not to mention "chattering" 
in the classroom?! This is, of course, in addition to dealing with the 
non-acoustic concrete ceilings and hard concrete floors and walls.

How many of us speak "properly", breathing correctly and using our diaphragm 
properly rather than straining our vocal chords? Do know that as teachers we 
all have the right to speech therapy, provided by the different Kupot 
Cholim. I took advantage of this opportunity some time ago; it helps. 
However, it certainly doesn't address the issue of poorly built schools. 
Sadly, I see the non-acoustic classrooms in brand new school buildings, too.

Here is another issue that our unions should be dealing with...our health!
