I have been following and listening. Has anybody considered the use of a
computer?
There is a programe called"Read Please" which is free to download. The
student then scans the text into the computer and the computer reads the
text to the student.
Positive points - it teaches the student to be independent. It helps the
student deal with his/her problems.
Negative points. Teachers will have to have access to a scanner to prepare
the text for uploading. Will the school be able to provide a computer for
each LD student on the day of the exam?
Years ago I used to prepare a tape of the exam text and put the students in
a language laboratory. Yes I was fortunate to have a lab in which every
student had a tape recorder. Today I use "Read Please" in the belief that
some of my students will take this tool with them. Yes I am fortunate that I
have computer access for all my students.
