I haven't taught the play Twelve Angry Men but I have shown the film (with
Henry Fonda and many other famous actors - famous to my generation
anyway....).    Despite the fact that it was a bit melodramatic and in black
and white, it provoked a very interesting discussion on a comparison between
the American and Israeli legal systems.  I was once fond of saying that the
Israeli system is superior because it is harder for an expensive team of
lawyers to fool three or five wise, seasoned judges than to fool a jury,
but I'm not so sure I would say that anymore.......

As far as some schools not doing the Literature, hopefully the program that
will be piloted next year to have the literature program replace Module F,
will go a long way to solving that problem.

We taught our 5 pointers "Twelve Angry Men" this year
and the kids actually enjoyed it. It's interesting to
discuss the legal system in the States compared to
here, the notion of "beyond a reasonable doubt", etc.
After finishing, we watched the original version of
the film and discussed differences.
We will use it again this year.

By the way, it really bugs me when I hear some schools
are not doing the Literature Programme, while some of
us carry on, despite the extra load of Project work.

I'm surprised that no one has brought up the Bagrut
grades and the par between the Tziun shnati and the
exam grade. Am I to understand there were no problems?
We definitely had some exaggerated cases which are a
bit worrying.
