Subject: Re: Encouraging students to converse in English
Hi Hadas,
I don't know you or your situation but... I have been in Israel for 30
years, my Hebrew is excellent, yet I still have an accent and do make
mistakes. I ask my pupils, in Hebrew, why they don't laugh at me. They say
that my mistakes don't matter, it's OK! (They are reassuring me!) So I
bounce it back to them and tell them that speaking English with mistakes
doesn't matter, just speak and no-one will laugh at you.
I try not to correct their oral mistakes, as long as they are willing to
open their mouths, I am happy. I also sometimes get them just to repeat my
sentences, I mean how wrong can you get? And then I say -LOOK you're talking
English, you can do it!
Good luck
Judy

If you have any ideas as to how encourage students to converse in English
(preferably from experience), I would appreciate it if you could write me
about them.
