Well done Miriam!!!
Thanks for writing.
It was the first time I attended the Etai conference.
I was in some excellent lectures and presentation which
I'm sure will be useful for my teaching. I also found very
good bargains on books, games and CD's. It was both
enjoyable and beneficial.
But I'm not sure I can afford coming to another Etai
summer conferences if the price stays the same or
possibly go up next year.
None of my friends came, partly because it cost so much.
We all have very young children and that means paying
baby sitters for full two day, as well.
(They charge you 20-25 NIS for an hour, just so you know).
I think it would be great if you could give it a thought and
see what can be done to encourage teachers to participate.
Thanks,
Liron.

I can't understand why it has to be so expensive. Many teachers I know
simply couldn't afford to come. Does the convention have to be at a hotel?
That thought has crossed my mind as well. I drove up with a young
teacher. She paid for a membership (mine is hora'at keva - so I don't
realise that I pay for it...) She paid for the two days. She paid for a
metapelet. The cost of the conference (and membership) alone came to
about IS 350.- for two days. That is a lot of money!!! The membership is
valid one year only so she will have to pay the same next year, too. There
were so few young teachers at the conference.
In comparison to other conferences, ETAI is not that expensive. However,
the question should be: do we want to compare ETAI to other conferences
or do we want to make sure that as many young teachers as possible and
all teachers in general are able to attend.
I know that ETAI is a non-profit organisation. But there has to be a way
to organise sponsors or whatever it takes so that more people come. It
seems to me that there were less people there this year than in previous
years. Please correct me if I am mistaken.
