I have been fighting an uphill battle with colleagues and superiors
regarding "fluency" vs. "accuracy". I agree with Morris - we should
encourage our students to speak up as much as possible, irregardless of
their grammar. Our primary aim should be fluency and confidence in speaking
and writing English. And of course, we should keep working at improving
accuracy through grammar instruction, and requiring comprehensive editing
and correction of written material. Of course, that would require teachers
to actually take the time to mark written work....
