Subject: Re: Accomodations
I asked the original question about accomodations.
The student I tutor is to be examined in the winter. He goes to an Ancori
School, so has bee studying.
I only have this to say about the option of a reader: it is a tremendous
burden on the school teacher, who must read and write every exam for the
student. Multiply that by however many one has and...............
Gevalt!!!!!!!
However, this particular student, and probably many like him, is a hard
working boy, with a very thorough knowledge of English. Certainly, he is
able to pass the 5 point bagrut using two tapes, though his essays will be
very poor, and his answers will be full of the type of mistakes caused by
not remembering the form of the question. Was is "complete the sentence" or
what. Furthurmoore, there is a tremendous disparity between the essays he
dictates to a person, and the one he dictates to a machine. His written
essays are often indeciferable, because of his sriting and his off the wall
spelling.
Now that the strike is over,it is time for you teachers at school to demand
that your input be heard, both by the testing department and the Ministry.
In this day and age of advanced technology, there has to be a way of
examinning LD students fairly, without placing this tremendous burden on the
teacher. It is also time to put order into the testing of such students.
Need I remind you of the number of students who are awarded accomodations
unneccessarily, simply because the parents can buy a diagnosis.
