Subject: ideas for a play/performance
Hi ETNIers,
I am currently teaching 100+ 10th graders in China. I (and more important,
the school principal) would like them to put on a performance in English for
the rest of the school. Their English level is low-intermediate, but
they're highly motivated and willing to work hard. It's important that all
of them participate, no matter how small a part each one has. I was
thinking that the best thing would be to divide them into groups and have
each group work on either a sketch, song & dance, choral recitation, etc. I
do think it best to have an overall storyline, though, and not make it a
variety show. Some of the better students will be able to handle solo
parts. They'll be performing on a stage with microphones, but there's no
other audio-visual equipment to speak of. Of course we can use a CD player
for music.
This is the first time that anything of this sort will be done at the
school, so I'm pretty much free to do whatever I want. I would greatly
appreciate any input from you wonderfully creative ETNIers. Maybe you have
done something similar or can direct me to where I can find suitable
material. Perhaps you have ideas for the theme or storyline, maybe some
good songs.
Thanks in advance.
