The ETAI and the British Council Workshop on Using Film in the Classroom
(Tuesday 11th March 2008)

Having missed this workshop when it was held in Beer Sheva in January, there
was no way I was going to let another opportunity pass me by when I saw it
advertised again.

So after a day's work, I toddled off to Makif Zayin in Ashdod. Sharon warmly
greeted and re-energised us with refreshments of drinks, sandwiches and
hamantashen.

More than one "little bird" had told me it would be fun and practical. They
weren't wrong. It was the kind of teacher-training session I like best: see
it and do it. We watched short film clips from some of the latest British
films and actively fulfilled the tasks with vision off and on, sound off and
on, prediction and discussion.

You don't need to show an entire film to have a worthwhile lesson. A short
segment will do. From class 5 to class 12, audio-visual clips speak to our
students and offer teachers a wealth of authentic, effective and attractive
teaching material. Try it; it's fun.

What's more there were teaching goodies to take home.

This workshop played to a capacity crowd of 35 teachers of all levels. So,
here's to the participants and the organisers – Dr. Sharon Azaria, from
ETAI, and Nicola and Leo, from the British Council.
