Subject: back to work - without orders
Now that we are back to work, some of my colleagues may like to use the
attached (David, please oblige) for an opening lesson.
http://www.etni.org/strike/taking_with_me.doc
1) Ask pupils to read the pairs of sentences and choose the option that
BETTER reflects what they feel. They write 1 or 2 for each item. They must
commit themselves on all sentences.
2) Using a show of hands list for your record, the number of pupils that
have chosen 1 for each item. This will give you a fair idea of the direction
in which the wind blows.
3) Ask pupils who have written their own sentence to read their sentences
aloud and explain them.
4) Either in the class forum or in groups, ask pupils to relate to sentences
that seemed particularly significant for them. Encourage general discussion
of their points of view.
5) Follow up with a "writing an opinion" task if you wish.
Still Nonanon
