First of all I want to thank all those who wrote giving advice as to what to do about my student who has great problems writing decipherable English. I am his private tutor, so had to make sure that things were set in motion at his school. I am happy to say that things seem to be moving.

I want to point out, for the benefit of other teachers, that this student's case was made more difficult, because when he writes answers in unseens, he is able to manipulate the language of the text in such a way that he rarely makes mistakes; it is only in the free writing of an essay that he is unable to write comprehensibly.

Obviously, as a private tutor, I have more time to find out what his particular problems are, and discovered that he has 'shichtuv' in Hebrew, so there shouldn't be any problem getting the same in English.

My heart goes out to the overburdened English teachers in school, with so many students getting accomodations these days. What irks me is the fact that so many are obtained with no justification, just because the parents can afford to pay.
