Subject: Treasure Hunt

Hi all,
I have had loads of replies asking for more information about the Treasure
Hunt so instead of replying to each one I thought I would outline it on the
etni mail.

We split the classes into 8 groups because we wanted each group to collect 8
candles.
There was one group leader who received the first clue ( not on a candle).
We sent each group to a different station - it was all outside so we made up
clues like:

The favourite place in school.
This place is really cool!
Here you can meet
If you want to ________! The idea of course was the kiosk.

A place where you can sit.
A place where you can work.
BE QUIET!
You musn't talk! The library.

Each clue was pasted on to a candle - we made 8 sets of candles each with a
different color and letter. Each group was given the first clue which
coordinated with their color and letter - ie blue was A, pink was B etc.

At each station we set up a student or teacher and the pupils ran to the
station were given an activity about Hannukkah and then after it was checked
were given the next candle with the next clue.

We had 8 different activities:

1.A secret code using wingdings from the fonts in word - with a sentence
about Hannukah.
2.Make up 20 words of two or more letters from the words Hannukah - Festival
of Lights.
3.Write a song and sing it about Hannukah.
4.Mixed up sentences about Hannukah.
5.Word search on Hannukah.
6.Make an invitation to a Hannukah party ( previously learnt in Take
Action).
7.Mixed up letters from words for Hannukah.
8.A Hannukah crossword.

The groups ran from station to station - one teacher checked to see all was
well and each station was manned.

At the end the winning group received a certificate made using Billy Bear
Certificates (which are excellent for many things) and a packet of chocolate
coins. All the rest of the students were given some chocolate.

We asked our principal to present the prize and the certificate - it lasted
one double lesson and it was great fun.

We will probably think up something for Purim for the 8th grade so I will
keep you all posted.
Happy Hannukah

Diane VanSpier
