Subject: The Best ETAI Winter Conference in Beer Sheva

Dear ETNIers,

"Wheels of Change," the theme of this year's ETAI Winter Conference in Beer Sheva, intrigued hundreds of teachers and students, who came from all over the country on Sunday to listen, learn, and give presentations. Participants at the conference, which took place at Kaye Academic College of Education, praised the tremendous organization and wonderful warm atmosphere. Many who were there called it the best conference ever held in Beer Sheva.

Kudos go to the conference conveners, Dr. Riva Levenchuk and Dr. Inessa Roe, who worked tirelessly to plan every detail so that the participants could enjoy the many sessions offered, as well as the opening speech on a literary theme by Prof. Bret Lott, Dr. Judy Steiner's talk on "The ABC's of Change," and the closing plenary by Prof. Penny Ur, who gave a very timely look at how fashions come and go in English teaching.

One surprise was the ETAI Lifetime Achievement Award granted to Dr. Riva Levenchuk, for her "longstanding dedicated involvement in ETAI on behalf of the English teachers of the Negev," and to Prof. Penny Ur, for her many outstanding contributions to the field of teaching English as a foreign language, both in Israel and abroad.

The conference participants, many of whom were brought there by special buses organized by ETAI and by the various teaching colleges, wound up the day in high spirits, singing a catchy melody together with Laurie Orenstein. All in all, it was a day to remember!

Hanukka sameach,
Marna Snyder
ETAI Office Director
