Hi,
Just want to share with Etni teachers the fact that we had our first Jerusalem District Spelling Bee for elementary and junior high students this afternoon at the American Cultural Center.
We enjoyed having students from our school participate, first at the classroom level, then at the school level, and finally today, in the final round. I'm definitely going to encourage more of my colleagues to participate in future competitions.
I was especially impressed with the kids! When they're challenged, they're great! Small doses of competition are obviously good for learning. The young participants can put some adult spellers to shame!
For a first try, this was extremely successful! The children were delightful and it was a very calm and positive experience.
I know that lots of people worked hard to make this event happen and thanks to all of you! This kind of thing allows one to forget about strikes and "matkonot" for a while!
