3. Meeting at Hod Hasharon Education Department - June 12th
Attended by:

Yossi Bayer & Hannah Sasson, Directors of Hod
Hasharon Education Department;

Anne Sagi, Education Ministry English
Oversight/Supervision (from Netanya to Hod
Hasharon)

Nir Cohen, parent's steering committee
chairperson, Lapid Elementary School

Benjy Maor, parent's steering committee
chairperson, Tali Hod Hasharon

1) Yossi reiterated the Mayor's stern opposition to
closing down the English Speakers program, and
noted that he is working with the Education
Ministry management to insure this doesn't
happen; Benjy kindly requested, that the Mayor be
updated as to the summary of this meeting, and -
in the name of the parents, to receive more details
about the Mayor's actions on this issue.

2) Yossi, Hannah and Anne were aware of the
2001 directive from Dafna Lev allowing the English
Speakers program under certain conditions,
although they had not seen the document itself until
this meeting when the parents presented it to
them. They felt it worthwhile trying to get a hold of
the 1993 document it refers to.

3) Yossi was very impressed with Att. Maor and
Segalov's June 11 letter to Dr. Hagit Meir (Ed. Min.
Supervisor) and said that Dr. Meir's response to
the letter, when we receive it, should serve to
greatly clarify, if not resolve the situation.

3) Anne Sagi updated us regarding the various
levels of Ed. Min. supervision on the issue; Yossi
and Hannah will act in the coming days to clarify
the situation with those relevant and responsible,
and they will inform the parents as soon as they
hear anything regarding the intent to change the
current situation regarding the English Speakers
program, or not.

4) All were in agreement, that no matter what, for
the 5768 school year we will not accept a situation
where English speakers will be in regular English
classes or where the English Speakers program
would take place after school hours.

5) Once we have a response from Dr. Meir & the
information that Yossi and Hannah are to get from
Ed. Min oversight, then we will determine the next
meeting/stage of action.
