A few ideas - none brilliant, but they do work!
1. Give them the story of hanuka with the lines in the wrong order - they have to sort out the sequence, and then you have lots of vocabulary work to follow it up . (Very good for reminding them of the story which they may not have heard since gan! :-( )

2. The hanuka story with whatever language focus is the flavour of the month - could be a good time to review the past tense (well, it did happen in the past!)

Note - the two ideas above can be used every year, with different classes of course, as the story doesn't change from year to year, so it's worth all the preparation the first time around!

3. Miracles - what miracle would you most like to see and why? Miracles the world needs, my town needs, my school needs (careful here!). Group work / pair work And there have been some lovely 'miracle' stories on ETNI in previous years.

4. Giving instructions - how to make sufganiyot or latkes - if the class is small/good enough (I'm allowed to have a sense of humour!), maybe this could be a practical lesson.
